Enterprise Policy
Enterprise is often simplified as ‘running a business’ or
‘entrepreneurship’, but enterprise is about much more. It is about
turning ideas into a success, being imaginative, creative,
inventive, problem solving and can even just be about making things
more interesting.
One of the key aims of the NWDA and the Regional Economic
Strategy is to improve the formation, survival and growth
rates of enterprises in the Northwest. The Northwest ranks in
the bottom two-thirds on various indicator scales for business
start up and survival rates in the UK. In addition, the
Regional Economic Strategy identifies the need for 38,000 more
firms per year to be created just to reach the UK
average.
To help acheive this, the NWDA is
committed to improving the availability of business finance
and influencing Government policy on small business regulation.
The Agency is also committed to creating an enterprise culture
that encourages individuals and businesses to take opportunities,
start new businesses and make existing businesses become more
innovative.
The NWDA, alonsgide the Northwest Enterprise Forum and regional
partners, have developed the Northwest Enterprise Strategy.
Produced in response to the Government's strategy 'Enterprise:
unlocking the UK's talent' 2008, the document is based on
three core themes: developing enterprising people, businesses and
places.
