Business Resource Efficiency and Waste (BREW) programme

The Business Resource Efficiency and Waste Minimisation (BREW) programme provides an opportunity for businesses in the Northwest to gain commercial success through environmental good practice.

The three-year BREW programme, which commenced in April 2005, has been developed by the Department for Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) to return additional landfill tax receipts to businesses to help support their improvements in the areas of waste management and resource efficiency.

BREW in the Northwest

The Regional Development Agencies are receiving money to co-ordinate delivery of the BREW programme at the regional level and to carry out strategic resource efficiency projects in the regions.

BREW type activity is firmly established and productive in the region, with regional initiatives such as ENWORKS, the Northwest’s environmental business support programme and Envirolink Northwest, the region’s energy and environmental technologies and services sector development organisation.

Further information on the BREW programme and details of the national partner organisations can be found on the Defra website
