Housing Policy

The NWDA works at a strategic level to influence housing policy.

Housing Renewal Programme

The NWDA is involved in the Government’s £2.2 billion Housing Market Renewal programme, which is overseen by the Homes & Communities Agency and set to run until 2011. Housing is being improved in specified "pathfinder" areas through a combination of housing stock refurbishment, clearance and replacement. The Pathfinder areas in the Northwest are: Manchester/Salford, Merseyside, Oldham/Rochale and East Lancashire.

Manchester Salford Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder covers the Harpurhey, Cheetham, Lower East Corridor and Moss Side areas of Manchester, and the Seedley/Langworthy, Higher Broughton, Lower Broughton and North Irwell areas of Salford. NewHeartlands covers the Liverpool, Sefton and Wirral areas of Merseyside.

Oldham Rochdale Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder covers the northeast of the Greater Manchester conurbation. Elevate East Lancashire covers a large part of the urban areas across Pennine Lancashire, within the boroughs of Burnley, Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn, Pendle and Rossendale.

The NWDA is also supporting a housing renewal initiative in Furness and West Cumbria, which is being delivered by West Lakes Renaissance Urban Regeneration Company.
