Southport BID

The Chapel Street BID area covers the retail core of Southport, including Chapel Street, Wesley Street, Town Hall Gardens, Corporation Street, and parts of Tulketh Street and Eastbank Street. It also includes Marble Place and the Cambridge Arcade.

Consultation with retailers within the BID area identified that increasing custom and consequently retail sales, is by far the most important requirement to justify a BID levy.

The Chapel Street Area BID has been thought with one purpose: to deliver more customers; more customers with greater disposable income, staying longer and coming back, the result being improved retail sales and profitability.

Activities identified to achieve this purpose will not only result in payback for the businesses themselves, but will deliver key benefits for their employees, shoppers and visitors. These benefits include:

  • increased custom
  • increased trade
  • a safer environment
  • a cleaner environment
  • an enhanced environment
  • effective working partnership
  • performance measurement
  • additional financial investment

An unsuccessful ballot for the BID was held last year, and further development work is now being undertaken.
