Northwest Livestock Programme

Defra set out three themes for investment for approx £18m of the funds:  

1. Farm Competitiveness – to bring about improvements in the competitiveness of each individual livestock sector to help them compete in the market place.

2. Nutrient Management – to provide support for farmers in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of on-farm management of nutrients.

3. Animal Health & Welfare – to assist farmers in meeting the changing responsibilities and facilitate improved animal health and welfare.

A regional stakeholder group Chaired by the Sustainable Food & Farming Champion, Will Cockbain, including NFU, CLA, Environment Agency, GONW and NWDA has developed a programme of activity.
