Manual for Streets - Carlisle

Date: Thursday, 11 March 2010
Location: Crown Mitre Hotel, Carlisle, Cumbria
Time: 09:30 to 16:30

Manual for Streets, published March 2007 by the Department for Transport, gives new advice for the design of residential streets in England and Wales. It represents a strong Government and Welsh Assembly commitment to the creation of sustainable and inclusive public spaces.

There is a need to transform the quality of residential streets, and this requires a new approach to their provision. The Manual is aimed at any organisation or discipline with an interest in residential streets, ranging from access officers to the emergency services. The importance of joint working among practitioners is a key feature of the Manual.

This workshop will give an overview of the Manual for Streets and outline the principles of successful street design. The workshop will focus on a local and relevant case study site, providing hands-on guidance and expertise.
