Northwest's first Biotechnology Awards
Last night saw Bionow host the very first Northwest
Biotechnology Awards Ceremony, at the Mere Golf and Country Club in
Cheshire attended by 150 guests.
The prestigious awards ceremony was by chaired by Mr Peter Raymond,
Chairman of Tepnel Life Sciences plc after Dr Linda Magee, Head of
Bionow, NWDA, began the proceedings.
The accolades included Biotechnology Project of the Year, which was
awarded to Gentronix, Young Biotechnologist of the Year, received
by Dr Andrew Knight and Dr Nick Billinton also of Gentronix, and
Biotechnology Company of the Year, awarded to Renovo Ltd.
Bionow also made a further award to Mr Peter Raymond as Northwest
Personality of the Year in recognition of all his work within the
sector.
Professor Heinz Wolff, best known for such television classics as
The Great Egg Race and Young Scientist of the Year, brought the
awards to a close with a stimulating after dinner speech.
Dr Linda Magee, Head of Bionow, NWDA, said:
"These awards highlight the strength of the Northwest's
biotechnology sector and importantly, the quality of companies such
as Gentronix and Renovo. I am delighted to have been able to host
this esteemed ceremony, showing Bionow's continued support of the
growth of this valuable sector.

NewScientist as well as our Judging Panel".
Bionow is the name of the biotechnology cluster development
programme of the Northwest Development Agency, with an executive
currently funded and employed within the Agency and an industry-led
Steering Committee. Bionow was launched in 2000.
