State of the art facility opens its doors to Enterprising Wirral Women

A unique service for Wirral female entrepreneurs has been officially launched at Egerton House, the prestigious Business and Conference Centre situated in the heart of the Wirral Waterfront area in Birkenhead.

The Egerton Enterprise Centre for Women offers affordable, safe and professional business accommodation and state of the art IT equipment for up to 25 female-led start-up businesses in a prime, accessible location.   For just £6 a week, women entrepreneurs will also be able to access a range of business support and mentoring services and a secure postal service in bright, modern office facilities 7 days a week.

The launch event was attended by a range of high profile guests from the worlds of business, arts and economic development, including Steven Broomhead, the Chief Executive of the Northwest Regional Development Agency, Steve Maddox, Chief Executive of Wirral Council, and Maggie O’Carroll Chief Executive of Merseyside’s womens enterprise support organisation, Train 2000.

In keeping with the ethos of the new centre, successful local entrepreneurs were also invited and involved.  These included Anthony Zausmer of Posh Nosh Kitchen in Birkenhead who provided the catering, plus Bala Croman, the proprietor of The Chocolate Cellar, also based in Birkenhead.  Stunning abstract paintings by Liverpool artist Jason Jones were also on display for the event.

Steven Broomhead said “Women are drastically under-represented in the business world, both in terms of occupying top jobs and when it comes to owning and operating their own businesses.  We hope that will a little support and the provision of excellent and professional business accommodation such as these, we can really get women creating their own businesses and address the business gender imbalance”.

Brian Dowds, the Chair of Egerton House, commented: “The Enterprise Centre for Women has been created to give budding local businesswomen that extra boost to take them to the next level. Making the move from a home-based venture to one set in well established business premises such as Egerton House can have a positive impact both in terms of external image and in the confidence of the individual business owner.  This is particularly the case when combined with on-hand support and guidance.

We are extremely proud to be able to offer this valuable service to women and look forward to seeing many businesses thrive and grow here.  This will in turn maintain Egerton House’s status as a unique, high quality and enterprising business facility.”

Steve Maddox, Chief Executive, Wirral Council said “ I am delighted that one of Wirral’s flagship business centres, Egerton House, has extended its services to offer this innovative and much needed support for local female entrepreneurs.

Encouraging enterprise and entrepreneurship is critical to ensuring a thriving and sustainable local economy, and I have every confidence that this facility for enterprising women will be a huge success story both for them and for Wirral”.
