Wirral hosts major national conference
After two years of intense preparation, Wirral Council will next
month play host to up to 400 national leading figures in Children’s
Services when it stages the 105th NEEC (formerly North of England
Education Conference).
The conference is being staged in partnership with the
University of Chester. Conference president is Baroness Estelle
Morris, and the event takes place over three days at Weatherhead
Media Arts College, and at Chester Racecourse, between January 7th
and 9th.
Keynote speakers include the Secretary of State for Children,
Schools and Families, the Rt Hon Ed Balls MP, who will be taking
part in an interactive keynote session with delegates drawn from
all the professions now working together to deliver Children’s
Services.
Other key speakers include Dame Gillian Pugh, The Bishop of
Birmingham the Rt Rev David Urquhart, Professor Sir David Watson,
Dr David Colin-Thomé and Peter Fahy, Chief Constable of Greater
Manchester Police.
For the first time, the former educational conference has been
opened up to all those working within the Every Child Matters
framework – education, health, social care, the youth justice
system and research.
The conference learning programme is centred on workforce
development, helping key partners to learn to work together
more effectively to safeguard and nurture children and young
people.
The conference is being supported by the Department from
Children Schools and Families who have sponsored places for
England’s most senior school governors and by Serco, the Teacher
Learning Academy, the Children’s Workforce Development Council and
the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA).
