Worktech08 North announces conference programme
• WorkTech08 North Conference to debate, discuss and divulge
the latest thinking on creative work places, new media and future
of work.
• Unwired, the knowledge brand of Cordless Group, has
announced the programme for Worktech08 North.
• The conference that looks at emerging technology, its impact
on property, workplace, work and innovation, is in its fifth
year. This year, it takes place on 23rd and 24th July at the
Lowry, Salford Quays, Greater Manchester overlooking the site of
the UK’s first mediacity. The event’s theme is Creative
Places, New Media and Future of
Work.
Leading speakers will address:
Digital Media and its impact on how and where we work. Erik
Huggers, BBC Future Media & Technology and Scott Rupprecht,
Head of Innovation, Siemens will examine the impact of the digital
revolution on broadcasting and workplace. (Erik is
responsible for the execution of BBC’s internet, TV and mobile
services into a seamless experience for audiences wherever they are
in the world.)
Challenges of change: 3 Property Directors from leading
organisations including the BBC, the Co-operative Group and Wm
Morrisons Supermarkets share their experiences and challenges for
the future in a panel debate with Brian Greasley, Managing
Director, MediaCity.
The ‘Connected Enterprise’. Philip Ross, CEO Cordless Group
and Charles Armstrong, Trampoline Systems will look at technology
trends that empower employees to connect, collaborate and innovate;
and examine ways of strengthening informal employee networks across
departments and geographies. Philip and Charles will showcase
the powerful coming-together of the physical (location, presence,
carbon footprint) and logical (social, collaboration, expertise
networks) worlds’.
Culture and impact on workplace. Phil Redmond, Founder of
Mersey TV and writer of some of British Television’s most
influential drama including Grange Hill, Brookside and Hollyoaks
will address ‘culture’ and examine its use as delivery or
monitoring mechanism.
In addition to the conference on 24th July, five interactive
masterclasses on the 23rd July will explore the future of workplace
with cases studies of innovation, visions of the future and a panel
debate from leading thinkers.
Topics include:
o Reducing carbon footprint and maintaining comfort and
inspiration,
o An examination of ‘What makes a truly creative
workplace’,
o ‘Professional Workplace of the Future’
o ‘Improving Shareholder Value through the Real Estate
Portfolio’.
Commenting, Cordless Group founder Philip Ross said: ‘Creative
design has a profound impact on the way we work but still too many
knowledge workers struggle with outdated physical environments,
organisational structures and working practices. What makes
WorkTech so exciting is the opportunity for delegates to explore
these ideas alongside some of the world’s most eminent thinkers on
these topics and also to learn about next generation ideas and
technologies that will herald a new wave of change.’
Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive of the Northwest Regional
Development Agency (NWDA) comments:
“England’s Northwest has long enjoyed a well earned reputation for
outstanding creativity and artistic innovation, as well as a
nationally important role as a dynamic business location, however
there is still the need to create an increased number of innovative
work environments in order to generate and inspire further
enterprise. It is appropriate for WorkTech08 North to be held at
the stunning Lowry, an imaginative venue in itself, which overlooks
Media City UK – a site that will be at the forefront of technology,
offering a world class hub of innovative concepts and setting a
standard for the future.”
