FE Enterprise Hubs nurture talent in England’s Northwest

The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) is investing £2.5 million in 13 Further Education Enterprise Hubs to create an "enterprise journey" that will introduce young people to the concept of enterprise in schools, offering a clear entrepreneurial route that can be followed through to university.

The ‘Hubs’ will work with primary and secondary schools across the region to help embed enterprise within the curriculum, extending its influence into the local community.

The project, which will last for three years, will create a lifelong Enterprise Journey to develop the skills, knowledge, and capability of teachers, tutors and young people, to maximise their career opportunities.

The Hubs are expected to encourage 480 adults to undertake work based training and 15,000 pupils (under 16), to develop enterprise skills outside of statutory education.

Enterprise Advisor Service Northwest will be the project delivery organisation for the FE Enterprise Hubs project.  Enterprise Advisor Service Northwest was formed in 2006 to develop and extend the work undertaken in Merseyside and Cheshire, as part of the Government’s Enterprise Education agenda for 14-16 year olds.

Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive, Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) said:

“Young people require inspiration from an early age – the Hubs project will ensure enterprise is seen as an exciting career option, to raise aspirations of children, young people and adults, helping to develop a ‘can do’ culture.

“The Agency has a strong commitment to promoting enterprise across the region, boosting business start ups and regional productivity.”
