Time is running out to find champions of learning - Nominate learners for a learndirect Achievement Award

With just a few days left to nominate, learndirect needs help to celebrate the 241,041 exceptional people across the country who are developing their skills by taking learndirect courses.

In support of improving skills and maximizing the region’s employability, the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) is sponsoring the Northwest round of the learndirect Achievement Awards Working with Employers category.

This is in support of the contributions made by learndirect to the growing local employment and improvement in the region’s workforce.

Former England rugby ace and Dancing on Ice champion Kyran Bracken, who is supporting this year’s awards, is calling on all those involved with learndirect to make a nomination:

"I am proud to support the learndirect Achievement Awards because I know how important it is to boost your skills and potential. Developing new skills takes hard work and perseverance, but the benefits are always worth the extra effort. I’ve got first-hand experience of this having trained hard to be part of the Rugby World Cup-winning team and then re-training in the field of ice-skating to be crowned Dancing on Ice champion.

Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive at the NWDA said:

“Developing skills in the Northwest is paramount to the economic development of the region and acknowledging the achievements of the individuals and associations who have raised standards across the board will encourage future regional success. The Northwest Regional Development Agency is pleased to support this year’s Northwest learndirect Achievement Awards, sponsoring the Working with Employers category.”

“The learndirect Achievement Awards celebrate learners and businesses who are going that extra mile to develop their skills and up-skill their local area, as well as the people and centres supporting them. I would urge people to visit www.learndirect.co.uk/awards and nominate someone who really deserves to be recognised, before nominations close on 27 March."

Local people may have learned fantastic new skills with learndirect, or met a learndirect tutor who made a tremendous impact on their life.

Employees of businesses working with learndirect to improve the skills of their workforce can step forward and ensure their employers are recognised. By nominating an individual or business for a learndirect Achievement Award, local people could give them a chance to win a prize and be recognised on a national level. Anyone can make a nomination by visiting www.learndirect.co.uk/awards before Friday 27 March.

The learndirect Achievement Awards, now in their third year, celebrate learners and businesses who are going that extra mile to learn new skills and improve their qualifications, as well as the people and centres supporting them. The Awards recognise people from all walks of life, like learners who have overcome personal difficulties or have returned to learning after many years, and businesses working with learndirect to train their workforce.

To nominate a learner, business or learndirect centre for an Achievement Award, visit the website at www.learndirect.co.uk/awards. Entries close on 27 March 2009
