Gosselin make Lancashire town first UK base

The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has awarded a £290,000 Grant for Business Investment (GBI) to a major European manufacturer to establish a UK base in Blackburn, creating 37 new jobs.

Gosselin is Europe’s largest manufacturer of laboratory consumables, including Petri-dishes, bottles and other lab receptacles.

The French company currently holds a 50% market share of the European Petri-dish market, making the UK an ideal location from which to extend market share within Northern Europe. This leader on the European market innovates permanently: new logo, new visual identity, a R&D unit.

The £290,000 GBI will bring £1.9 million of inward investment to the region within the Biomedical Sector.

GBI is part of ‘Solutions for Business’, the Government's package of publicly funded business support designed to help companies start and grow.

Mark Hughes, NWDA Executive Director of Economic Development said:

“Establishing a UK base within East Lancashire will contribute towards Blackburn’s vision for a biomedical cluster, strengthening supply linkages within the region as a result of this important investment.

“Gosselin is a well established company that has extended rapidly since the late 1960’s – with the NWDA grant it will continue to increase market share, creating further jobs in the future.”

Thierry Van Twembeke, Managing Director of Gosselin said:

“Our market leader position is not the end of its changes, it help us in building new partnerships day after day with key players of our Industry. Our strategy will allow reaching the following objectives - Increase the global market shares; reinforce the development of new products and increase our international brand-awareness”
