Our Performance

The NWDA has consistently met or exceeded all targets set by government, helping to boost economic development in the Northwest. Since its inception in 1999, the Agency has:

  • Created or safeguarded 195,835 jobs.
  • Reclaimed 4,417 hectares of brownfield land.
  • Levered £2.7 billion of private sector investment.
  • Created 17,416 new businesses.

In addition, in 2006 the Agency was one of the first regional development agencies (RDAs) to be assessed by the National Audit Office (NAO). In the NAO's Independent Performance Assessment, or IPA, the Agency was awarded a “Performing Strongly” rating, the highest ranking available. The assessment  measured how effectively the Agency is working to improve the region’s economy. It recognised key strengths, including strong partnership working, effective leadership, strong financial control, the commitment of our staff and our record of achieving outputs.
